It takes the whole village to support our successful Band program. Please consider volunteering - no experience required! All volunteer jobs are easy and training is provided. A SignUp Genius web site will be emailed to band parents 1-2 weeks in advance so volunteers can self-select a job.
NOTE: Hazen’s Marching marching band season only spans 2-3 months (September - Oct/Nov), however they still play during Basketball season which runs through the Spring. These volunteer positions are only needed during football performances and parades . Volunteers are not needed during basketball season.
Uniform Distribution / Collection (approx 4-6): Before game, retrieve uniforms and hat boxes from uniform closet and check off names; circulate in band room helping with hems and zippers, enforcing "shoes off" and "no food, no colored drinks" rules. Post game, collect uniforms and hats, scan for necessary repairs, and store in closet. Uniform helpers do not need to attend football game.
Dinner crew (approx 2-3): Prepare Hazen cafeteria with dinner after it's delivered. Ensure napkins, flatware, plates, cups, and beverages (ice water) are ready. After dinner clean off tables and return cafeteria back in order. Dinner crew volunteers do not need to attend the football game.
Plume duty, weather permitting (2-3) - A few minutes before the half time performance, musicians gather on the field while volunteer parents quickly secure delicate plume feathers to hats. Immediately after their performance, plumes are collected and stored. Plume duty volunteers must attend 2nd quarter of football game and self-pay ticket fees, if any.
Water crew (2) - Responsible for helping keep our kids well hydrated by transporting and distributing water bottles and/or jugs. Help ensure band's equipment and property left in the stands during half time show are secure. Water crew volunteers must attend entire football game and self-pay ticket fees, if any. Guaranteed premium view of game! :) Ear plugs can be provided.
Equipment crew (2): Move band director ladder, scaffolding platform, and sound system to Band trailer, set up at stadium, return equipment to trailer after game, and return to school storage. Equipment helpers must attend entire football game. Often ticket fees are not collected for this position.
Bus chaperone / Band set up (2): Ride bus with band, ensure general orderliness in bus /minimize chaos to the extent possible, ride back to Hazen in bus with band bus after game. Tape off band section in stadium with Do Not Cross ribbon (supplied). Clean benches to prevent stains on band uniforms. Volunteers must be present before and after football game, no entrance fee (enters stadium with band).
On-site Medical Support (1): Medical experience not required! Responsible for carrying First Aid bag (supplied), aiding students with minor health issues (cuts, dehydration, etc). Distribute bandages, carry students' Epi-pens or medications. Inform band officers if resupplies are needed. Must attend entire football game and self-pay ticket fees, if any.
